Everything the 1Zombie booth can do and how to use it: from your first set to drops, announcements, crowd reading and saved sets.

1Getting started

What 1Zombie does

You describe the vibe, and the 1Zombie DJ (powered by ChatGPT) picks songs that flow like a real DJ set: tempo, key, energy, era and genre. Your own Spotify plays them, while the booth handles transitions, drops, announcements and reading the room.

What you need

  • An invitation. Request one on the home page. You'll get a code by email or message.
  • Spotify Premium and a free Spotify developer app (about 5 minutes, see Setup).
  • AI: your own OpenAI key, or a plan that includes 1Zombie AI.
  • Optional: an ElevenLabs key for voiced announcements, or a plan that includes voices. A YouTube key if you want music videos instead of Spotify.

Create your account

  1. Open the invite link, or go to Log in → Create your account and type your code.
  2. Add your name, email and a password (8+ characters).
  3. You'll see the plans page. Your free trial starts right away; tap Start with the free trial or pick a plan.
You stay logged in on each device for a year, so you won't have to log in again at the party.

The booth's tabs

TabWhat it's for
BoothThe DJ console: what's playing, the set, the crossfader, effects and drops.
MixPlan the music: the vibe, songs, playlists, where it plays and how long.
RulesHow the DJ picks and mixes: energy, adventure, DJ-style order, drops and sound effects.
CrowdThe event, the moment, and the camera or photo that reads the room.
VoiceMake drops and announcements with AI voices.
HistorySaved sets to play again, and the songs that already played.

2Setup

Tap Setup at the top of the booth. Everything you type here is saved only in that browser.

Spotify

  1. Go to developer.spotify.com → Dashboard → Create app. Any name works.
  2. Tick Web API and Web Playback SDK.
  3. Under Redirect URIs, paste the address Setup shows you (tap Copy). It ends in /app/.
  4. Copy the app's Client ID into Setup and tap Save. Spotify asks you to log in once.
Family or co-hosts: Spotify lets each developer app have 5 people. Add their Spotify emails under User Management in your Spotify app.

ChatGPT (the 1Zombie DJ)

  • Plan with included AI (Plus, Pro, Ultimate): you don't need a key. Under Which AI to use, keep "1Zombie AI from my plan".
  • Your own key: platform.openai.com → API keys. Paste it in OpenAI API key. If you also have included AI, the booth uses your plan first and switches to your key if the month's allowance runs out.
  • Model (own key only): gpt-4.1-mini is fast and cheap. Thinking models like gpt-6-luna work too; the booth asks them to think on "low" so they answer quickly.

ElevenLabs (optional)

For the Voice tab. elevenlabs.io → Settings → API keys. With your own key you can use any voice in your account, including your own cloned voice. Pro and Ultimate include 1Zombie's stock voices without a key.

YouTube (optional)

console.cloud.google.com → create a project → enable YouTube Data API v3 → Create API key. The free limit is about 100 searches a day (roughly 60–90 songs).

Other devices

In Setup on the device that's already set up, choose one:

  • Send setup to my other device: AirDrop it or send it to yourself in Messages, then open the link on the other device and tap OK.
  • Show QR code: point the other device's camera at it and tap the link.
  • Copy code: paste it in Setup on the other device and tap Use pasted code.

Setup saves right away; if it's a new device, Spotify asks you to log in once. The code carries your keys, so only send it to yourself.

Added the booth to your Home Screen? On iPhone and iPad, the Home Screen app keeps its own settings, separate from Safari. Open the setup link from inside the Home Screen app: use Copy code, then paste it in Setup there.

Test connections

Shows a ✓ or ✗ for ChatGPT, Spotify and YouTube, with what to fix.

3Mix: plan your music

Describe the vibe

Write it the way you'd say it: "2000s fresa bars in Monterrey", "Halloween classics with new pop", "cumbias and norteñas for a family carne asada". The DJ reads it literally: a decade, a city, a type of venue or crowd.

Add songs

Search and tap Add on 2–10 songs. They show the exact sound you want: the DJ brings in more songs by those artists and similar ones, and can play your songs spread through the set (turn that off in Rules).

Use a playlist

Paste a Spotify playlist link, or tap Mine to choose one of yours.

  • Use as inspiration: the DJ studies its sound and builds a new mix like it, with a few of its songs mixed in. It works together with the vibe and your songs. Tap ✕ on the card to stop using it.
  • Play it as a set: plays the playlist itself through the booth, with your drops, announcements and crowd tools.
Someone else's playlist? Spotify only lets apps see the songs of your own playlists or ones you collaborate on. Another DJ's playlist still plays as a set (songs appear as they play), but as inspiration the DJ only sees its name. Ask them to add you as a collaborator, or in Spotify use ⋯ → Add to other playlist → New playlist and paste your copy.

Spotify or YouTube

Switch at the top of Mix. YouTube plays music videos in the booth.

Play on

Choose where the music plays: This browser (computer) or a device running Spotify (your iPhone, a speaker, a TV). Tap Refresh if your device isn't listed.

On iPhone or iPad: open the Spotify app, start any song and leave it playing, then come back, tap Refresh and choose it. A paused Spotify app goes to sleep and can't be reached.

How to play

  • Full set (recommended): 1 to 5 hours, built as a real Spotify playlist. Music starts in seconds with the first songs, and the rest is planned while they play. Once it says the set is ready, you can lock your phone.
  • Song by song: the DJ picks each next song while the current one plays, so it can react to every crowd check. Keep the booth open.
  • Archive after 24 h / Keep in Spotify: one-off sets hide themselves from your Spotify library after a day; they stay in History so you can play them again.

Start the mix

A progress screen shows the percentage and what the DJ is doing: reading your vibe, picking the first songs, finding them on Spotify, creating the playlist, starting the music, planning the rest. Tap Keep it running in the background to shrink it to a small bar; tap the bar to open it again.

4Booth: run the party

Deck A: what's playing

The record spins with the album art, the tonearm follows the song, and the screens show time left, tempo, key and energy. Buttons: Pause (keeps your set; tap again to continue), Next, and End mix (clears the set, asks first).

Deck B: your set

The next songs' covers, the set length and time left, and the full set list with each song's tempo and key. A big change label marks a spot where the flow jumps.

Edit the set while it plays

  • ✕ removes a song that hasn't played yet.
  • ⤴ moves a song to play next.
  • + Add a song searches Spotify; tap Next to play it after this song, or End to add it at the end. Great for requests.

Prepare next set

Change the vibe or the rules, then tap Prepare next set. Your current set keeps playing while the new one is planned (a small progress bar shows it). Then choose Switch after this song, Switch now or Discard.

Make it mix like a DJ (Spotify Mix)

When a full set is ready, a card offers Open the set in Spotify. In Spotify, tap Mix at the top of the playlist and Spotify adds beat-matched transitions (Premium). If the set changes later, the card comes back so you can tap Mix again. You can also turn on Crossfade in the Spotify app: Settings → Playback.

Crossfader

When the music plays in this browser, drag the crossfader toward B to mix into the next song.

Effects and Drops pads

Tap any pad to fire it live. Above the drops, choose Tap plays now or Tap plays at song end (perfect for announcements; see Drops).

Visualizer

An optional skull visualizer and LED equalizer that move with the tempo. Turn it on in Rules; hide it with ×.

5Rules

RuleWhat it does
EnergyKeep it (steady with small waves), Build up (climbs to a peak) or Cool down (eases to a warm finish).
Adventure1 stays very close to your songs' genre and era; 5 explores new ground while still mixing smoothly.
DJ-style orderTempo moves a few BPM at a time, keys follow the Camelot wheel, energy builds in runs of 3–4 songs. On by default.
Transition fadeHow long songs blend when the music plays in this browser.
Transition effects1Zombie DJ picks a riser, bass drop, flanger, horn or rewind for each change, or Fades only. Browser playback only.
Include my songsPlays the songs you added, spread through the set.
Clean versions onlyFor family events and school dances.
Changing rules mid-set: drop settings apply right away. Music rules apply to songs picked from now on; a full set is already planned, so an Update the rest of the set button appears. It replans and switches in after the current song.

6Drops & announcements

Add your drops

In Rules → DJ drops, tap Add files (or Add a folder on a computer). MP3, M4A and WAV work. They're saved in this browser and listed with ▶ to preview, their length and ✕ to remove.

Automatic drops

  • Between songs: On (shuffled) plays every drop once in random order before repeating.
  • How often: By songs ("Every ___ songs", blank = every song) or By time ("Every ___ minutes, when the song ends", blank = 10). Drops always wait for the end of a song.
  • Short drops start about 3½ seconds before the song ends and run into the next one. Long ones start early so they finish as the song ends. If Spotify Mix or Crossfade changes the song early, the drop plays during the blend.
  • Below the settings you'll see when the next drop is due and which one played last.

Announcements

Name a file starting with announcement, anuncio or aviso (for example announcement raffle.mp3). Announcements never play on their own; their pads have a dashed border and an ANNOUNCE label.

  1. In the Booth, choose Tap plays at song end.
  2. Tap the announcement. Its pad pulses "AT SONG END".
  3. It starts so it finishes right as the song ends, with the music lower underneath. Tap it again to cancel.
How long can a drop be? Any length. 2–8 seconds works best between songs; longer announcements are fine with "at song end". On a computer the music dips to about 40% (22% for drops over 8 seconds); on iPhone, iOS lowers Spotify like a notification.
Drops need the booth open with the screen on. On iPhone, turn off Silent mode, and tap the screen once after reopening the booth so its sound can play.

7Sound effects

In Rules → Sound effects, each effect (Riser, Bass drop, Flanger, Air horn, Rewind, Impact) has:

  • An on/off switch. Effects you turn off are never used in transitions and disappear from the Booth.
  • Its own volume slider and ▶ to preview.
  • Replace to use your own MP3, and ↺ to go back to the 1Zombie sound. Riser and Flanger files are lined up to end right when the next song comes in.

+ Add your own effect adds new pads to the Booth's Effects section (sirens, laughs, crowd cheers, anything you like).

8Crowd

Tell it the event and the moment

  • The event: Quinceañera, Wedding, Birthday, Family party, House party, Bar or club, Public event, Office party, School dance, Restaurant or lounge.
  • Right now the DJ wants: Welcome & cocktails, Dinner music, Dance floor, Hype (bring people in), A special moment, or Winding down.
  • Anything else for right now: a short note, like "the waltz is next, keep it in Spanish".

Changing the moment during a set replans it to switch in after the current song. Dinner stays mellow; Hype gets loud, familiar crowd-pullers.

Read the room

  • Computer: Turn on webcam and choose to check every 2, 5 or 10 minutes, or tap Check now.
  • Phone: tap Take a crowd photo.

The DJ judges the mood against your goal: people seated at dinner is "exactly right"; an empty dance floor gets a crowd-pleaser; a packed floor keeps the energy up. Photos go only to OpenAI to judge the overall mood and aren't saved. Let your guests know the camera is on.

Plans: crowd photos are included in Ultimate, and work on any plan with your own OpenAI key.

9Voice

  1. Choose Announcement or Drop / DJ tag.
  2. Box 1: tell 1Zombie AI what you need (for example "In Spanish, invite everyone to the dance floor for Ana's waltz") and tap Write it with 1Zombie AI. Or skip it.
  3. Box 2: edit the text, or paste your own.
  4. Choose a voice and a model: Multilingual v2 (natural, best for Spanish), v3 (most expressive) or Flash v2.5 (fastest, cheaper).
  5. Optional: open Voice settings. Pick a preset (Natural, Hype MC, Announcer, Warm host, Calm & slow) or adjust Speed, Stability (lower = more emotion), Clarity + similarity, Style exaggeration and Speaker boost. With v3 and Flash you can also set the language. Your settings are remembered.
  6. Tap Make it with ElevenLabs, listen, name it, then Save to my drops or Download.

Announcements are saved with the "announcement" name, so they only play when you tap them. A 30-word announcement is about 180 characters.

10History & saved sets

Every full set becomes a Spotify playlist and shows up in History → Saved sets, on every device you log in on.

  • ▶ Play plays the set again exactly as it was.
  • Keep puts an archived set back in your Spotify library and stops the 24-hour timer.
  • Archive hides a set from Spotify now; it stays here.
  • ✕ removes it from the list.

Played lists the songs that already played in this mix.

11iPhone & iPad tips

  • Keep Spotify playing on the phone before choosing it in Play on. A paused Spotify app goes to sleep.
  • Lock your phone only in Full set mode, once it says the set is ready. Spotify keeps playing the playlist.
  • Drops, announcements and crowd checks need the booth open with the screen on. The booth keeps the screen awake while a set runs (Low Power Mode can override it).
  • Silent mode mutes the booth's sounds. Turn it off for drops and effects.
  • Nothing showing? If music is playing but the booth says Spotify isn't sharing, turn off Private Session in Spotify.
  • Reopened Safari? The booth picks up your set and place on its own. Tap the screen once so drops can play.
  • Smooth transitions: tap Mix on the set's playlist in Spotify, or turn on Crossfade in Spotify's settings.
